Velvet Lavender Design

For Velvet Lavender Design, I worked with four other members to design a space for a family dog rescue non-profit organization. The housing for dogs is located at 2253 Shafter Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124. The Family Dog Rescue is about rescuing dogs and having families adopt the rescue dogs. When my group and I visited the organization, we found it hard to locate where the front desk was. When we were upstairs, we also noticed that there were not many sitting areas. We wanted to add in some sitting areas and a sign in for their employees to get notified when their customers show to adopt and/or see the dogs that they are interested in.

  1. PHYSICAL NEEDS:

    1. Sitting Areas: comfortable, washable if necessary, or able to easily wipe down

    2. Adequate storage spaces: Places to store dog food, toys, etc.

    3. Safe flooring: No loose rugs to fall over or slip on, no flooring the dogs will chew up, or can stain (easily washable).

    4. Easy maintenance/cleaning: Surfaces and textures that are easy to keep clean and maintain.

  2. SOCIAL NEEDS:

    1. Security: Must have safe enter/exit strategy so dogs do not run out (potentially dutch doors), create a welcoming space so the dogs feel safe and secure.

    2. Aesthetically pleasing environment: Fresh new paint, new flooring installed, and furniture that has good form/function.

    3. Financial affordability: Budget is $1000, nonprofit organization.

    4. Adequate space in which to entertain: The meet and greet room must be able to function as a space for guests to meet dogs as well as a space for puppies to live in while it is not being utilized.
